The Wayne County Board of Supervisors voted on Tuesday nearly-unanimously to adopt their Opportunity Analysis and Marketing Plan.
The plan was billed as an opportunity for Wayne County to start picking up lost ground against other markets. Earlier this summer, the supervisors were given a presentation on the marketing plan and strategy, which focused on engaging the public and private sectors to promote growth inside the county.
Wayne County contracted with Investment Consulting Associates and Conway PR & Marketing to analyze opportunities and challenges that the county faces, as it pertained to economic development, resident growth, tourism, and other areas of opportunity.
Adoption of the plan, which took nearly 15 months to complete before it reached the presentation that was given this summer in Newark — was met with little friction. Supervisor Groat, of Galen, voted against the plan — pointing out that he would not support it due to it’s lack of specifics regarding benefit to the eastern portion of Wayne County.
Many members of the board said that the plan was a good step for the county to take, as it pertained to identifying the needs of the entire county. While alternatives were not put forward to the plan, many said that the plan was a simple first step to identify the places where the county can address growth concerns in Wayne County.
