Rochester man charged with DWI-Leandra’s Law after 10-year-old found in vehicle

A 51-year-old Rochester man was arrested on multiple DWI-related charges on Sunday at 6:26 pm after the Canandaigua Police Department received complaints of a sick or intoxicated driver on State Route 332.

Authorities located a vehicle being operated by Marvin J. Ashford, 51, of Rochester traveling southbound on State Route 332, nearly causing a crash, and traveling almost 20 mph over the speed limit.

Officers observed Ashford traveling 53 mph in a 30 mph zone at the entrance to the City of Canandaigua. A traffic stop was then conducted, which led to a subsequent investigation of the driver.

Ashford was found to be operating his vehicle in an intoxicated state, and had a 10-year-old family member inside the vehicle. He was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated, DWI-Leandra’s Law and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was arraigned in Canandaigua City Court and committed to the Ontario County Jail in lieu of $250 cash bail or $500 insurance bond.
