Geneva Active Transportation Committee announces pair of community info sessions

The Geneva Active Transportation Committee will be holding two community information and input sessions over the next week to continue the effort of assessing and improving the conditions for all bicyclists and pedestrians who travel within the City and Town of Geneva.

“Resident and visitor feedback is vital to creating the best plan possible. We encourage all members of the community to stop down and review the progress and offer their walking and bicycling expertise at one of the sessions,” said Sage Gerling, Director of Neighborhood Initiatives.

The first will take place this Saturday, August 6th from 9:30-11:30 AM on the sidewalk in front of Lynch’s Furniture (479 Exchange Street).

The second will take place on Thursday, August 11th from 10 AM to 1 PM at the Geneva Farmer’s Market (Exchange St. Parking Lot).

As a joint collaboration between the City and the Town, the Geneva ATP Steering Committee and the consultant team has been working diligently to acquire input from the public and to gather and analyze data regarding bicycling and pedestrian safety and infrastructure. The committee has completed bicycle and walking tours and a community survey, which provided much insight, and is now ready to present its preliminary findings to the public to gain important feedback.

The purpose of the information sessions is to offer an opportunity to the public to review the existing conditions analysis and the needs assessment for walking and biking amenities in Geneva and preliminary priority intersections. The community will be able to review the results from the community walking and bicycling survey and offer feedback on the material and to share personal walking and bicycling experiences.

The public is encouraged and invited to spend 15-30 minutes looking over the information and offer their feedback. Community members can also take the survey (available in English and in Spanish) online at www.genevanrc.org or in person at City Hall (first floor) or at the Geneva Public Library.

With funding from the Genesee Transportation Council, the City and Town of Geneva contracted with Barton & Loguidice with Sprinkle Consulting to develop an active transportation plan with assistance from the steering committee which was formed in the Fall of 2015.
