Family rescued from Canandaigua Lake after boat fire, two children suffer minor injuries

One man and three children were rescued from Canandaigua Lake on Tuesday after their boat became fully-engulfed with flames.

The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports that Marine Patrol, as well as Canandaigua Ambulance and Fire Department responded to the area of 3831 County Road 16 in the Town of Canandaigua for the report of a boat fire on the lake.

When first responders arrived they found the 1986 Rinker fully involved and destroyed. The four occupants of the boat — owner Nathanial W. Burnett, 27, of Stanley, as well as three minors — aged 4, 6, and 10 respectively — jumped from the boat into the water where they swam to shore.

All of the children were wearing lifejackets. Two of the children, according to deputies, suffered minor burns to their feet and legs. Both were transported to F.F. Thompson hospital for treatment — and were released.

The boat was towed from the scene. A number of residents from the area of the accident jumped into the water — helping the family to the shore.
