Murder in Yates: Body ID’d as Penfield man

Arrests have been made. The body that was discovered in the Town of Jerusalem has been identified as Craig Rideout, the missing Penfield man who was last seen Tuesday night around 11 pm, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. While Jerusalem and Penfield are about 50-miles apart — the investigation between the two heated up Friday afternoon during a joint press conference where it was announced that Rideout’s estranged wife, as well as their two children — were arrested and charged with multiple felonies.

Laura Rideout allegedly entered her estranged husbands home on Wednesday, attempting to conceal or destroy blood evidence that could have incriminated her. Investigators allege that she removed physical evidence that could have linked her to the crime.

Additionally, deputies say that she had planned on removing additional evidence, which would have linked her to the scene.She was charged with burglary and tampering with evidence — both of which are felonies.

She was remanded to the Monroe County Jail on $25,000 bail. More charges are possible.

Craig’s children were charged with tampering with evidence. They also were remanded to the Monroe County Jail on $25,000 bail.

Deputies from Yates County say that Rideout was found in Jerusalem with corrosive acid poured over his face and body. The Monroe County Medical Examiner says that the cause of death was asphyxiation with additional evidence suggesting that blunt force trauma to the head was present.

Rideout’s 2010 Honda Odyssey is still missing, according to investigators. Anyone that has information related to the location of the vehicle, or the events that transpired in Penfield or Jerusalem are urged to call 911.
