Town of Ovid “Kick-offs” Comprehensive Plan

Ovid Town Supervisor Walt Prouty and Comprehensive Plan Committee Chairman John Hubbard welcomed the public to the town’s Comprehensive Plan “Kick-off” on Wednesday, July 13th. Diana Smith, a representative of the MRB Group, the town’s consulting firm, explained the plan will address the town’s quality of life and examine what makes Ovid a place where people want to live. As part of that planning process, the town board has appointed a steering committee of town residents and local business owners. Guided by a team of planning professionals from MRB Group and EDR, the steering committee is charged with analyzing strengths and trends in the town. “Public participation is the most important element,” said Smith. She and the town board outlined information about the goals of the process, as well as the many opportunities for resident involvement that are planned. The steering committee will be scheduling multiple opportunities for public comment during the process, Smith said. In addition, public hearings will be held by the town board at key points in the process. Updates and notices will be posted at the comprehensive plan’s website: www.TownofOvidComprehensivePlan.org “We want everyone to be involved,” Prouty has stated. “This is an opportunity for Ovid residents to consider our own future, and plan for the kind of community we want to become,” Hubbard has said. The next Steering Committee Meeting is scheduled for July 27, 6 PM, at the Ovid Firehouse, Brown Street, Ovid, New York.
