A Macedon woman has been charged with welfare fraud after an extensive investigation by Wayne County’s Welfare Fraud Unit. Deputies arrested Alateishia Johnson, 34, of Macedon — charging her with welfare fraud in the fourth degree, grand larceny in the fourth degree, and offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree.Johnson was arrested after an investigation was initiated by the Wayne County Department of Social Services. Johnson allegedly failed to report her husband’s income at the time of recertification for SNAP benefits. It is required by law and program that Johnson be truthful on the filings when applying for benefits. As result of the false filings and failure to report income — Johnson was in receipt of $2,458 worth of SNAP benefits to which she was not entitled.She will answer the charges at a later date in Wayne County Court.
