One in guarded condition after car strikes ATV

A Canandaigua woman is in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital after her ATV crossed into the path of a vehicle on State Route 21. Deputies in Ontario County say that a vehicle operated by Robert Medzel was traveling southbound on State Route 21, north of Andrews Road when he struck an ATV being operated by Sue Burgess, of Canandaigua. Deputies say Burgess entered the highway in the path of the vehicle and was struck in the rear-left corner of the ATV. Burgess, as well as a 14-year-old passenger on the ATV were ejected from the vehicle. The 14-year-old was transported to F.F. Thompson Hospital for minor injuries and was later released. Burgess was transported by Canandaigua Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital after suffering extensive head injuries during the accident. She is currently in guarded condition. The airbags in the vehicle deployed but the driver was uninjured. No citations were issued and the investigation is ongoing.
