PY teens accused of stealing money, selling heroin

On Monday the Penn Yan Police Department arretsed Austin W. Farmer, age 19, and Shylo R. Zirkle, age 19, both of Penn Yan after an investigation of drug sales in the Village of Penn Yan.It is alleged that on June 10th Farmer and Zirkle broke into a residence on Brown Street and stole money as well as other items. The two then traveled to the City of Rochester and used the money to purchase heroin. On June 26th a uniformed Penn Yan Patrol Officer working the night shift observed Farmer conducting a possible drug transaction on Benham Street in the Village. Officers stopped a vehicle a short time later and recovered heroin from the driver. An investigation into the observed drug transaction revealed that Farmer sold a quantity of heroin to the driver.Farmer was charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance in the 3rd, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 3rd, burglary in the 2nd, and conspiracy in the 5th. Zirkle was charged with conspiracy in the 5th. Both were arraigned in the Village of Penn Yan Court where Judge Conlon remanded Farmer to the custody of the Yates County Jail on combined bail on all charges of $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond. Zirkle was remanded to the Yates County Jail on $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond.Additional charges are pending for both.
