The Auburn Police Department announced on Friday that Lt. Roger J. Anthony was named the new Deputy Chief of Police. Anthony’s effective start date was July 1st, 2016. Deputy Chief Anthony began his career with the Auburn Police Department in January of 1997 as a patrol officer in which he served a majority of his assignments on the afternoon shift. In 2000, he was assigned to the Finger Lakes Drug Task Force as a narcotics investigator. In 2008, he was then promoted to Sergeant and then Lieutenant in 2011 while he supervised and then commanded that very task force. In 2012 he had been assigned to the patrol division as a commanding lieutenant of the afternoon platoon. Deputy Chief Anthony will be charged with the day to day functions of the police department as well as coordinating the functions amongst the other police divisions and providing high level administrative support to the Office of the Police Chief. Deputy Chief Anthony will ceremonially be sworn in during the City Council meeting scheduled for July 7th at 5 pm.
