Volunteers needed for Trevor’s Gift summer program

As the school year winds down, the folks at Trevor’s Gift want to remind parents that Trevor’s Gift, the backpack feeding program, will still be available for Waterloo kids. The summer backpack program will be from July 7 through August 12.Parents can sign their kids up to receive Trevor’s Gift at the Skoi-Yase summer reading program, the LaFayette School summer reading program, the Waterloo Community center summer rec program and the Waterloo Library. Please do not sign up at multiple places.Drivers are needed for about one hour a week on Thursdays to deliver the totes of food to the schools. Drivers should have a reliable van or truck. All expenses are paid by the volunteers so that all money donated can be used to feed hungry children.A volunteer also is needed to help pack and lift the totes of food for about three hours on Thursdays. (The schedule sometimes changes for school vacation periods when extra bags of food are distributed).To volunteer, please contact Doris Wolf at 315 539 8302 or Kaaren Gerlach at 315 539 2927.Trevor’s Gift is confidential and at no cost to recipients, thanks to the generosity of people, businesses and organizations in Waterloo area. Since its founding five years ago, Trevor’s Gift has distributed more than 30,000 bags of food to nutritionally needy children in Waterloo. It costs $20 to feed a child for a month or $200 for the year. All contributions are tax deductible. Checks may be sent to Waterloo Education Foundation, Main Street Shop Center, Waterloo 13165.
