One of Canandaigua’s most unique events, Roses & Rosés, will be held on June 13 from 6 pm to 9 pm at Sonnenberg Gardens and Mansion State Historic Park in Canandaigua. This elegant wine and food pairing event showcases dozens of wineries and restaurants from the Finger Lakes Region in celebration of Sonnenberg’s Rose Month. Guests are invited to stroll through the historic Mansion, Belvedere, and Rose Garden where many of the garden’s roses will be just starting to enter their peak bloom period. The event also features a silent auction that will be held in the Mansion.Mary Clark Thompson, Sonnenberg’s original owner, created the park’s historic Rose Garden more than a century ago. The garden features over 2,500 individual rose bushes. Mrs. Thompson’s favorite rose colors were pink, red, and white – the colors echoed throughout this garden today. While there are roses that bloom throughout the entire garden season, June is traditionally the month when the greatest number of roses in bloom can be seen. Sonnenberg’s Rose Month (every June) marks and celebrates this time as thousands of roses in bloom provide a truly amazing sensory treat.Advance reservations are $30 per person and $25 per Sonnenberg Member with prices increasing to $35 and $30 respectively at the door. This event is open to guests 21 and over only. In case of rain, the event is moved into the mansion. Prepaid reservations can be made by calling (585) 394-4922 or visiting Sonnenberg’s website, www.sonnenberg.org. Sponsors of this year’s event are: Ryan’s Wines and Spirits, Canandaigua National Bank, and Wegmans Food Markets. All funds raised at Roses & Rosés will directly contribute to the operation and revitalization of Sonnenberg Gardens. While Sonnenberg is a New York State Historic Park and operates in cooperation with the State of New York, it is supported entirely by the activities of its non-profit organization and fundraising events like this.
