Geneva man arrested after puppy found with broken leg

On Wednesday afternoon, the Ontario County Humane Society and Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a dog that may have been injured after the dog’s owner, Shawn Fish, age 39 of 2760 County Road 6 in Geneva, was reported to have been heard yelling and making the dog yelp in the house around 1:00 pm.A witness heard the disturbance and made the call after seeing Mr. Fish throw and 11-week old female German Shepherd mix names Jasmine from the front of his residence in Geneva.The dog was found to be lethargic and in pain when the Ontario County Humane Society officers arrived. Shawn Fish was not at home at the time of the officers arrival.The dog was transported to a local veterinarian where an examination and x-rays showed that her front leg was broken in two places.Fish was later found at his home around 5:45 pm when Sheriff’s Deputies and the Humane Society returned to interview him.Fish stated that the dog had urinated in the house and then fell down the porch steps when he let her out.He was arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals which is a felony. He was arraigned on the charge by Judge Fisher in Phelps Town Court and committed to the Ontario County Jail in lieu of $4,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
