On Thursday morning at 1:37 am, the Ithaca Police Department responded to the 100 block of E. State Street for a robbery that had occurred around 1:20 am. Officers responded and interviewed the victim, who had suffered minor injuries.The victim advised he was walking on west on E. Buffalo Street when he was grabbed from behind by his shirt and the suspect asked for the victim to turn over his wallet. The victim then gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of currency, at which point the suspect demanded the victim’s phone. The suspect then reportedly displayed a small knife or blade, and there was a brief struggle for the victim’s cell phone. After unsuccessfully fighting for the phone, the suspect reportedly punched the victim and then fled the area on foot in an unknown direction.Officers checked the surrounding area where the crime was reported to have occurred and were unable to locate the suspect.The victim declined medical treatment. The suspect was described as a black male of average height, wearing dark colored clothing.
