Ithaca Police are pursuing new leads in an open homicide case that is decades old. Those investigating even have a suspect after months of investigating nearly 30 years later. In 1987 the body of David W. Malcom, 26, of Ithaca was discovered on February 12th Red Cross Shelter office located at 717 West Cout Street in the City of Ithaca. He was a staff member at the Red Cross Shelter and had reported for work the previous day to work a 24-hour shift.Police believe that Malcom was murdered during the afternoon of February 11th. Last September, the Ithaca Police Department say they opened up a review of the case with assistance from the New York State Police Troop C Major Crimes Unit and Tompkins County District Attorney Gwen Wilkinson. The Cornell University and Tompkins Cortland Community College Police Department assisted the Ithaca Police Department with locating some of the witnesses who in 1987 were college students.More than 100 leads have been investigated over the last nine months and several witnesses have been interviewed in several states. Some of those, according to police, were as far away as the West Coast. A suspect who resides outside of the Tompkins County Area has been identified. His name is not being released as he has not been charged at this time and the investigation is ongoing, according to police.
