GPD: Victim identified, suspects at large

Details are still scarce following a shoot, which rocked the City of Geneva Friday morning. While the suspects remain at large and the victim remains uncooperative – police remain optimistic about what will be yielded in the coming days.Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the Linden Street and Seneca Street intersection area around 1 am. When officers arrived, they found a Geneva man with a gunshot wound. The victim, who did not cooperate with police may have been involved in an incident with individuals earlier in the evening, which may have led to the shooting, according to police. The victim has since been identified as Geneva resident Aleem J. “Hammer” Whitfield. As was initially reported, Whitfield was transported to Geneva General Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg. The injuries were serious, but non-life-threatening. He was transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital after initially being treated in Geneva.Geneva Police have also suggested that Whitfield may have known the suspects. However, little can be confirmed until more concrete evidence is put together. Technicians worked throughout the morning hours on Friday processing the scene, looking for additional clues.Police say they have been reviewing some video footage, but ultimately, the public’s assistance is being sought out to put together the picture.
