Newark woman charged with welfare fraud

A Newark woman is facing multiple charges following an investigation into welfare fraud in Wayne County. The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office reports that Sarah J. Buffett, 35, of Newark was arrested and charged with three counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, three counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, welfare fraud in the fourth degree, grand larceny in the fourth degree and attempted welfare fraud in the fifth degree.Buffett allegedly filed three landlord statements with the Wayne County Department of Social Services that contained forged signatures and false information between September of 2014 and April of 2016. As result of these falsified forms, she received a total of $1,200, which she was not entitled to.She was arraigned in Lyons Town Court and remanded to the Wayne County Jail in lieu of bail. She will return to Lyons Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
