On Friday night the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports that a Phelps man was arrested on a number of charges following a physical altercation after getting kicked out of a bar in Clifton Springs.Deputies say that John M. Cartwright, 31, of Phelps was being kicked out of Brothers Still and Grill bar for his inappropriate behavior when he returned a short time later to the establishment. Staff at the bar asked the Cartwright to leave, deputies say, but at that time he became belligerent with staff and started a physical altercation. When deputies arrived he was being restrained on the floor by staff. When deputies attempted to take Cartwright into custody he began to fight and resist the deputies efforts. Deputies say that Cartwright even bit the hand of a deputy during the struggle, which ended in Cartwright being taken into custody. He will appear in Phelps Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
