Auburn man charged with DWI in serious crash

Cayuga County Sheriff David Gould says deputies and investigators are investigating a serious accident that occurred Saturday morning at approximately 1:00 am in Fleming. The accident sent three to the hospital, including one infant, with serious injuries. Around that time the Cayuga County 911 Center received a report of a head on collision that had occurred in the Town of Fleming on State Route 34. Deputies responded to the scene, which was near Willow Brook Road. A preliminary investigation by members of the Sheriff’s Office determined that a northbound 2015 Honda CRV, which was being driven by Raymond Campagna Jr., 37, crossed into the southbound lane. Deputies say that when the vehicle crossed over into the southbound lane, it struck a 2004 GMC pickup truck, operated by Dakota Potter, 18.Deputies also say that the two passengers in Potter’s vehicle were air lifted, via Life Net to Upstate University Hospital for serious injuries. One was an unidentified female, and the other an infant child. In Campagna’s vehicle a female passenger was transported to Auburn Community Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.Campagna, of Auburn, has since been arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by a combination of drugs and alcohol. He has also been charged with failure to keep right. Deputies say that he is currently being processed, and the investigation remains open.According to Sheriff Gould, a number of agencies assisted at the scene. Those assisting included, Fleming Fire Departments and Ambulance, Owasco Fire Department, Rural Metro Ambulance, TLC Ambulance, and Cayuga County Emergency Management and Life Net.FingerLakes1.com will have more information on this story as it becomes available.
