The City of Geneva is pleased to announce the second 2016 Love Your Park(let) competition. Last year’s winners were Lake Drum Brewing and Joe’s Hots. Parklets are small public areas outside of a downtown business establishment that take up one or two parking spaces allowing streets to be people-centered and accessible. Parklets create public spaces for visitors and residents to sit back and relax, while enjoying the City’s uniquely urban atmosphere around them. Parklets are temporary platforms with seating installed in the on-street parking lane. The parklet extends the sidewalk space in order to provide additional public space for people to stop, sit and enjoy downtown during the Finger Lakes summer season. The Parklet competition is open to property owners and businesses within the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID) area. Up to three applicants will be granted permission to install a Parklet. Winning parklets will be in downtown from the Friday before Memorial Day through Columbus Day. Designs will be judged by a team including representatives from the City of Geneva and the Geneva Business Improvement District. “Downtown Geneva has become a model district in terms of innovative programming and exciting commercial and residential development. Parklets are another opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to capitalizing on the vibrancy created when public and private sectors collaborate,” said City Manager Matt Horn. The competition deadline is Monday, May 9th at 4 PM. Winners will be announced the same week. For more information or a copy of the design guidelines and competition requirements, please contact Sage Gerling at 315-828-6585 or [email protected]. Pre-submission consultation with City staff is required.
