A Wayne County man is facing a grand larceny charge after an investigation by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office into stolen telephone cable valued at more than $14,000. The investigation found that Douglas Aucter, 56, of Newark had stolen telephone cable from Ontario & Trumansburg Telephone. The business is located at 2174 State Route 96, in Phelps, and the alleged theft took place between the dates of October 24th, 2011 and November 3rd, 2011. The cable was valued at $14,832.82 and evidence was found, which yielded a DNA match, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Aucter was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, and will answer the charge in Phelps Town Court.
