Eastview shoplifting suspects flip vehicle in crash

Sunday afternoon was anything but quiet in Victor as a pair of suspected shoplifters at Eastview Mall led police on a brief chase. It began on foot, but quickly moved into the parking lot when the pair attempted to flee police in their vehicle. They eventually rolled that vehicle over after the cutting off another driver, but that didn’t happen until they had reached 490. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports that the entire ordeal began when deputies responded to the Von Maur store to investigate a shoplifting incident. As deputies attempted to apprehend the suspects, the two led those deputies on a foot pursuit inside the mall. The pair were later identified as Derrick Harley, 48, of Rochester and Pamela Gavin, 43, with no permanent address. As Harley and Gavin fled police they entered their vehicle in the parking lot, which was operated by Harley. While fleeing the scene, they struck one of the responding deputies with the vehicle, which caused minor leg injuries to the deputy.A short vehicle pursuit commenced and ended with Harley crashing the vehicle where the pair attempted to enter onto Route 490. The vehicle rolled over, but both individuals resisted arrest further, and the deputies subdued the pair using a taser. They were taken into custody and treated at Strong Hospital for minor injuries. The deputy that was struck also was released from the hospital after receiving treatment.Both suspects were arraigned in Victor Town Court and remanded to the Ontario County Jail. Both individuals had outstanding warrants from multiple police agencies. Harley was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree, reckless driving and numerous traffic tickets. Gavin was charged with petit larceny. More charges are pending for both individuals.Several agencies assisted at the scene, which included the New York State Police, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Perinton Ambulance and the Bushnell’s Basin Fire Department.
