Ithaca arrested on multiple drug charges

On February 29th, an Ithaca Police Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. The male operator of the vehicle provided the officer with a name and date of birth but advised he did not have his driver license on him at the time. The officer completed the traffic stop after a few minutes. After the traffic stop was completed the officer researched the information provided by the operator and determined that the operator had provided him with a fictitious name and date of birth. The officer determined that the true identity of the operator was Stevaun Punter Jr. Punter, who was found to have a suspended license.On March 1st, the officer observed the vehicle again, and initiated a traffic stop of the vehicle on Hector Street. Punter Jr was a passenger in the rear of the vehicle this time. The officer placed him under arrest for criminal impersonation for knowingly providing a false name and date of birth during the aforementioned traffic stop the previous day. He was transported to IPDHQ for booking. At IPDHQ Punter Jr was found to be in possession of a large amount of heroin and cocaine that was packaged consistent with sale and distribution.Punter Jr was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, criminal impersonation in the second degree, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree. Punter Jr was held that night for arraignment. He was arraigned later that morning in Ithaca City Court and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail without bail.
