The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Sunday, March 13th at approximately 9:15 pm first responders were called to State Route 488 in the Town of Phelps, just east of the Hopewell Townline for the report of a one car rollover.Reports indicated that Thomas Zeoli, 32, of Farmington was trapped inside the vehicle and that it had struck a fire hydrant, as well as a utility pole before coming to a rest. He was traveling westbound in his 2006 Acura TL, which left the north shoulder of the road.Zeoli was pronounced dead at the scene, as Clifton Springs Fire Department, Phelps Ambulance, Finger Lakes Ambulance, the Henderson Coroner’s office and NYSEG all assisted. A portion of State Route 488 was closed to all traffic for several hours as NYSEG worked to repair the impacted utility poles. The cause of the accident is still under investigation but early reports indicate that speed might have been a factor. While the driver only struck one pole, three poles in all were damaged or needed to be replaced following the accident. As of Monday morning, traffic had been restored to the area in-full.
