Clyde-Savannah gave back a five-point lead with under a minute to play in regulation on Monday night in their Section V Class C1 semifinal match-up with East Rochester at Palmyra-Macedon High School. A backdoor pass from Che’Vez Gaines to Casey Michele who converted a layup, was fouled, and made the free throw, tied the game sending it to overtime.Late in overtime it was Michele again delivering the final blow with a corner three pointer to seal a 71-68 triumph that sends the Bombers back to the Blue Cross Arena for the C1 title game on Friday night.Michele ended with 20 points, 15 coming off 5 three-pointers. Keith Butler led all scorers with 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds. For Clyde-Savannah, senior Jarrod Faniel had 18 points in his final game in a Golden Eagles jersey and Nathan Paddock knocked down 5 three-pointers to finish with 16.Top seed East Rochester will face Early College, who defeated Avon, 54-48, at Pal-Mac in the first game of the C1 semifinal double-header, in the championship game. Naples season ends at 17-6 and as Finger Lakes West tri-champions.In the other half of the D1 semifinal bracket it was C.G. Finney knocking off Genesee Valley 55-54 setting up a Class D1 final at Alfred University on Saturday between Finney and York.
In Class C2 it was top seed Northstar-Christian advancing with a 59-45 victory over Campbell-Savona. They will meet Perry in the Friday night final game at the Blue Cross Arena. Perry knocked off 2nd seed Geneseo 62-46 behind 19 points from Devon Mann.
On Monday night the Wayne-Finger Lakes boys leagues sent their first team to the final round with East Rochester’s win but the W-FL lost Clyde-Savannah and the final Finger Lakes West team that was still alive, Naples.
In girls’ semifinal action the Romulus Lady Warriors advanced in Class D2 with a 66-60 victory over Whitesville. They will face Prattsburg in the finals who defeated Elba, 47-39. Batavia, Pittsford-Mendon, and Our Lady of Mercy all advanced on Monday night in the Section V girls tournament.Sectional semifinal action continues on Tuesday.
