NWS: Winter storm updates for the FLX

The National Weather Service has upgraded the remaining Winter Storm Watches, which had been in effect for Wayne, Northern Cayuga, and Oswego Counties in the Finger Lakes to Winter Storm Warnings.

In addition, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Wayne, Cayuga, Ontario, Jefferson, and Lewis Counties in the region. In addition to heavy snow that is expected to overtake the region by late Monday afternoon, the storm also has the potential to dump 1.5 to 2 inches of rainfall on Tuesday. Excessive runoff from the heavy rain, in combination with some moderate melting snow will make for a potentially dangerous situation in flood proned areas.

The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Northern Cayuga, Wayne, Monroe, and Ontario Counties where 9 to 18 inches of wet, heavy snow is expected to fall during the storm. The Warning begins Monday at 7 pm and runs through Tuesday at 7 pm. In addition to the heavy snowfall, a tenth to a quarter of an inch of ice is expected to fall in the warned areas, as well. While blowing snow is not expected to be a huge problem during this event, wind gusts to around 30 mph could have a significant impact if icing occurs. For Seneca, Yates, and Southern Cayuga, Tompkins, and Cortland Counties a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect. Similar impacts, as snow, rain, and ice will combine to make travel difficult throughout the region. However, snowfall totals are expected to be significantly less in the advised area. A trace of ice accumulation, along with less than 6 inches of snowfall will mean that travel could become problematic — but will not be as difficult as in the warned areas. Here is the timing for when the Finger Lakes should start to see accumulating snow, according to the National Weather Service out of Binghamton:
