55-year-old Seneca Falls man killed in accident at Seneca Meadows landfill on Saturday

An employee at Seneca Meadows landfill in Seneca Falls was killed around 11:00 Saturday morning after he was hit by a tractor-trailer that was in the process of unloading. The accident is under investigation by police and OSHA with full cooperation from the administration at Seneca Meadows.Police have not yet released the victim’s name.Update on 2/8/16 @ 2:38 pm:The victim in the accident has been identified as James L. Corter, age 55 of Mynderse Street in Seneca Falls. Corter was operating the tipper machine when he was struck by a tractor trailer being operated by Robert S. Juliano Jr., age 44 of Middle Sodus Road in Lyons, which was in the process of backing up onto the tipper machine.The tipper machine is used to unload refuse that is loaded onto trailers that are brought into Seneca Meadows Landfill. Tractor trailer is owned by Pocono Logistics Inc.OSHA is still on scene continuing their investigation.Seneca Meadows issued a statement Saturday evening regarding the incident:"We are sad to report the death of one of our employees today. The accident is now under police investigation. We will leave it to the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation of the matter and give them our full support and cooperation. At this time, we are unable to provide more details as the accident is under investigation, We extend our deepest sympathies to all of his family and friends. This is a tragic time for the whole Seneca Meadows family. He was a valued member of our team and we will miss him very much."The Town of Seneca Falls Police were assisted by the Seneca Falls Fire Department, North Seneca Ambulance, New York State Police and the Seneca County Coroner. The Seneca Falls Police Department issued a release shortly after 10:00 on Saturday evening:On 02/06/2015 at 10:59 am, the Town of Seneca Falls Police Dept responded to a Fatal Industrial Accident that occurred at Seneca Meadows Landfill 1786 Salcman Rd in the Town of Seneca Falls, NY. Upon arrival, it was discovered that an employee was struck by a tractor trailer combination that was in the process of unloading. Accident is still under investigation with the full cooperation of Seneca Meadows Landfill Administration. Town of Seneca Falls Police were assisted at the scene by Seneca Falls Fire Dept, North Seneca Ambulance, Seneca County Coroner, and New York State Police. OSHA will also be assisting into the further investigation into the accident. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification to family members.
