Geneva’s Musselman Triathlon honored

Officials of Triathlon Business International announced that the Musselman Triathlon has been named ‘Best Small Event’ at its TBI/ACTIVE Network Awards Celebration dinner in Marina del Rey, California on January 24, 2016.The Musselman, held every July in Geneva since 2004, received the most votes in a poll that included other notable races from across the United States. Other events nominated included Montreal’s Esprit Triathlon, Tennessee’s Chattanooga Waterfront Triathlon, the Survival of the Shawangunks (New Paltz, NY), SavageMan (Deep Creek Lake, MD), and Portsmouth, Ohio’s American Triple T. The dinner also presented awards in the ‘Best Large Event’ and ‘Bucketlist’ categories.“This award is a testament to the dedication of the hundreds of community volunteers who have come together to make the Musselman Triathlon a favorite race of so many triathletes over the years,” says race director Rich Clark, vice president of Score This!!!. “We humbly accept it on behalf of everyone who played a role in last year’s Musselman.”The Musselman Triathlon has been cited by national sporting publications eleven times in its twelve-year history. The race was selected as one of the ‘Top 100 Races in the World’ by Triathlete Magazine in its most recent ‘Editor’s Choice’ rankings. In 2015 it was cited in an article on top races for new triathletes by Women’s Health Magazine. It has also received multiple honors in Inside Tri magazine, Bicycling magazine, and others.Musselman Weekend consists of four different races: the Musselman, a half-iron distance race held on Sunday; the mini-Mussel, a sprint distance triathlon on Saturday; the microMussel, a ‘super sprint’ featuring children’s tricycles and Big Wheels-style toys, on Friday evening; and the MusselKids Race, a triathlon for children ages 6-10 and 11-14, also held on Friday evening. The races are staged at Lakefront Park on Friday, and Seneca Lake State Park on Saturday and Sunday.
