Violent winds are being blamed for extensive power outages throughout the Finger Lakes region tonight, as crews work through the night to restore power. Initial reports indicated that as many as 6,000 were without power in Cayuga County, while thousands were also without power further west in Ontario, Wayne, and Monroe counties.Currently, the worst of the outages are in Steuben County, where NYSEG is reporting that 2,077 customers are still without power. NYSEG is also reporting that Seneca County has 210 customers without power, 62 customers in Wayne County without power, 90 customers in Ontario County without power. In Cayuga County, where the outages were the worst, NYSEG is reporting just 177 customers without power.RG&E is reporting 434 customers without power in Wayne County, 147 customers in Cayuga County without power, and 65 customers in Ontario County without power. In Monroe County, RG&E is still reporting more than 1,000 without power. Law enforcement in East Bloomfield and Phelps in Ontario County reported wires and trees down, and an official peak wind of 57 mph was reported at the Canandaigua Airport at 6 pm when winds began.Law enforcement in Wayne County reported numerous trees and wires down in Williamson, as well as Savannah.
