FL Concert Band to host Holiday concert

The Finger Lakes Concert Band, under the direction of Gregory Kane, celebrates the holidays with a special concert on Sunday, December 13, at 3:00 pm at the Canandaigua Academy Auditorium, 435 East Street in Canandaigua. The concert features a beautiful transcription of several variations from Elgar’s “Enigma Variations,” the overture to Gilbert and Sullivan’s comic ballet, “Pineapple Poll,” and Claude T. Smith’s exciting arrangement of “Eternal Father Strong to Save.” The second half of the program will be a festive collection of seasonal tunes that is sure to include one of your holiday favorites!Sponsored by Hochstein School of Music & Dance and comprised of adult instrumentalists and advanced high school students from the Greater Finger Lakes community, the Finger Lakes Concert Band rehearses weekly and gives several concerts per year featuring a wide variety of music ranging from standard wind band literature and orchestral transcriptions to music of the jazz and pop idioms. Tickets are $5.00 for adult general admission, available at the door; 18 and younger are free. Mr. Gregory Kane currently teaches music in the Canandaigua school system and is a passionate believer that music should be taught in all schools to children of all ages. As a graduate of The Crane School of Music, he holds bachelor degrees in both Music Education and French Horn Performance. He also holds a Masters of Music in Music Education from Ithaca College in addition to completing coursework at the Eastman School of Music. As a performer, he enjoys performing as a jazz pianist, as well as on the French Horn. He has performed with the Monroe County Music Educator’s Wind Ensemble, Southern Tier Symphony Orchestra, Southern Tier All-Star Jazz Band, Greater Finger Lakes Jazz Orchestra, Hornell Area Wind Ensemble, Honeoye Falls Community Band and at various other free-lance performances. The Finger Lakes Concert Band (FLCB) is in its 30th season and is comprised of volunteer amateur musicians (with a few music teachers!) from all parts of the Finger Lakes region. Formerly an offering of the music department of Finger Lakes Community College, and now under the auspices of Hochstein School of Music and Dance, the Finger Lakes Concert Band rehearses weekly and performs concerts for the community throughout the year.
