Congratulations to South Seneca’s All County Band Students

Congratulations are in order for several of our South Seneca Middle School and High School band students who have been selected to this year’s All-County ensembles. Each year our districts that include: South Seneca, Trumansburg, Ithaca, Newfield, McGraw, Lansing, Homer, Cincinnatus, Groton,and Dryden submit names of interested students to be selected for participation in the Middle School and High School Honors Band. Directors consider each candidate and consider their NYSSMA (New York State School Of Music Association) solo scores, prior ensemble participation or director recommendation based on student performance. Directors then meet to consider and select the group based on instrumentation needs and of course strive to include as many of our talented students as possible.These students will rehearse with guest conductors over the two day period on November 20-21 at Dryden Central School Auditorium this year. The guest conductors are Scott Kelley, Director of Bands at Ernie Davis Academy in Elmira, NY; for the Middle School Band and Dr. James Spinazzola, Interim Wind Ensemble Director at Cornell University, for High School Band. With the help of guest conductors, students rehearse and put to use the special instruction from guest conductors working with each group for a concert on Saturday.The concert will be at the Dryden Central School Auditorium on November 21st at 2:00 pm. The concert is free and sure to be a fantastic display of musicianship and talent from our area schools.
