Mandolin Orange to play at the Smith Dec.12

One of the most remarkable pair of voices on the Americana scene today, Mandolin Orange, will perform live at The Smith Opera House on Saturday, December 12 at 8 pm. The North Carolina duo is touring on their new album, Such Jubilee, having brought their energetic show to NPR’s Mountain Stage, and the iconic Newport Music Festival and Austin City Limits, among many other prestigious stages and festivals. Their tune, “Jump Mountain Blues” was featured on an October episode of ABC’s Nashville. After the breakout critical success of Mandolin Orange’s Yep Roc 2013 debut, This Side of Jordan, the pair toured relentlessly, bringing to the forefront the importance of “home,” a theme that resinates on many of Such Jubilee’s tracts. “All of these songs are definitely a product of being on the road,” says Orange Mandolin’s multi-instrumentalist/singer Emily Frantz, ”but they’re not about the road.” “They’re about home,” explains partner and songwriter/multi-instrumentalist/singer Andrew Marlin. “Not because we were missing it, but because when you’re gone so much, you start realizing what you have and what’s waiting for you. You realize there’s this place to come back to at the end of the journey, and that’s where a lot of these songs come from.” The road has been good to Mandolin Orange. Nation Public Radio called This Side of Jordan “effortless and beautiful,” naming it one of the year’s best folk/Americana releases, while Magnet dubbed it “magnificent,” and American Songwriter said it was “honest music, shot through with coed harmonies, sweeping fiddle, mandolin, acoustic guitar and the sort of unfakeable intimacy that bonds simpatico musicians like Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.” The Smith will provide the band’s “welcome home” after several weeks of touring in Europe and the U.K. The Mandolin Orange concert is part of the City Series and sponsored by The City Of Geneva. Tickets are $20 general admission in advance and $24 at the door. The Smith Opera House is located at 82 Seneca Street, Geneva. Box Office Hours are Monday through Friday, 10 am to 5 pm and Saturday 10 am to 2 pm Phone: 315-781-5483.
