Light Up Seneca Falls this Thursday night at 6 pm

For the past two years, the downtown businesses of Seneca Falls have not been able to turn on the holiday lights that trim their downtown buildings because they were worn out and beyond repair. With urgings from the SFBA, the town board agreed to replace the lights this year, and just in time. This Thursday, November 19, the Seneca Falls Business Association will host Light Up Seneca Falls, an event that will surely become an annual tradition for Seneca Falls residents. The newly installed lights are just part of the downtown event, as individual stores and businesses are also trimming their windows with holiday lights and decorations to add to the festivities. Business owners will keep their windows dark from 4 – 6pm at which time the whole downtown lights up! Light Up Seneca Falls will be something for all families to come out to see and a reason to visit downtown businesses to get a jumpstart on the holiday shopping season as restaurants and shops will stay open with Light Up specials. “No other area town or community has such an event” said Sharon Hoatland, SFBA Vice President and event organizer, “we expect that many visitors from surrounding areas will want to come and see what is happening in Seneca Falls…It will be ELECTRIC!” In the weeks following, additional new lightweight, energy efficient lighted garlands which have been donated by local businesses and supporters will tie into the building trim lights and hang across Fall St. adding to the magic of Light Up Seneca Falls for years to come. Seneca Falls Residents will get another Holiday lighting treat this month as the It’s A Wonderful Life Festival Committee and Seneca Meadows present It’s A Wonderful Holiday Lights Contest. Seneca Falls residents are invited to register their holiday light decorated home or nominate another’s, to win cash prizes. “If your family enjoys lighting up your home for the holidays, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to win prizes of $250 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third place” said Kyle Laude, IAWL President. Winners will be announced at the IAWL Bonfire, Dec. 11, and the first 25 entries will receive one free ticket to “Taste of Bedford Falls” during the It’s A Wonderful Life Festival on Dec. 12. Registration entry forms are available at www.theRealBedfordFalls.com or at the Visitor Center in downtown Seneca Falls. Entry deadline is November 30.
