Two charged in drug sale near Penn Yan Schools

On Tuesday The Penn Yan Police Department and the Yates County Sheriff’s Office executed two superior court warrants charging Merissa Johnson,22, and Faylind Petersen,21, both of 508 Liberty Street in Penn Yan, with numerous drug charges.Both Johnson and Petersen are accused of selling and possessing heroin while Johnson is also accused of selling marijuana. The heroin sales occurred from their residence which is within 1000 feet of the Penn Yan Academy and the Penn Yan Middle School. Police did contact the schools to advise them of the warrants being executed and the schools went into a lock in.Johnson was charged with 2 counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance 3rd, 2 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd, 1 count of criminal sale of a controlled substance near school grounds, 1 count of criminal sale of marijuana 4th, and 1 count of criminal possession of marijuana 5th.Petersen was charged with 2 counts of criminal sale of of a controlled substance 3rd, 2 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance 3rd, 1 count of criminal sale of a controlled substance near school grounds.Both Johnson and Petersen were taken into custody without incident and are being held in the Yates County Jail pending arraignment.
