Lyons brings back the HS play with ‘The 39 Steps’

After over 15 years, Lyons High School students will again be seen on the stage performing in a stage play. The play chosen is the smash hit comedy, The 39 Steps, which will go up on the stage November 6-8 at the Earl Buchannan Auditorium at the Lyons High School. “I had so much fun directing the Lyons Middle School Musical Plays with Jean Stoep and saw so many great performers pass through the program that I thought it would be just fantastic to work with them again at the High School level,” said Director Larry Ann Evans.The play, The 39 Steps, by Patrick Barlow, will have the audience in stitches! Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece movie with a juicy spy novel, add a bit of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps. This fast, no, SUPER fast-paced whodunit is a must-see for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This 2-time Tony® and Drama Desk Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs, tons of zany characters (played by a ridiculously talented cast of 9), an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance!L to R – Travis Anstee, Odin Patanzo, and Jake GiffordIn The 39 Steps, a man with a boring life, Richard Hannay played deftly by Travis Anstee, meets a woman with a thick accent who says she’s a spy played by Melanie Higgins. When he takes her home, she is murdered. Soon, a mysterious organization called “The 39 Steps” is hot on the man’s trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale! A riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft, The 39 Steps amounts to an unforgettable evening of pure pleasure! The rest of this over the top cast are MiKayla Mayo playing the ingenue, Pamela); Jake Gifford and Odin Patanzo who between the two play over 20 characters, sometimes changing right before your eyes; Seth Nesbitt who plays four parts including a cow; Cierra Moody, who plays three parts, including sheep; Shayla Prosser who plays three parts, but sadly no animal parts; and Ericka Moody who plays two parts. Leading the quick as lightning stage crew are Dave Hammond with Stage Manager Morgan Ball. Stage crew are rounded out with Hunter Schleede, Shannon Sergent and Lacey Smith. Lights are designed by Garret Coons, light board op is Cameron Bowser and sound by Alex Calvo. The 39 Steps will be presented at the Lyons High School on November 6 & 7 at 7:30 pm and November 8 at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $10 adults and $5 seniors/students and are available at the box office the nights of the show.
