A visit to Bair Vineyards in Naples

Laurie Dirkx visited Bair Vineyard in Naples this week and was able to capture some great photos along with learning the history of the business by talking with the owner Gary Bair. Below she recounts her experience and shares her photos.”Just as dusk was setting in, I had stopped at Bair Vineyard’s roadside stand at 7606 County Road 12, in Naples. I had the distinct pleasure of chatting with Gary Bair, the vineyard’s owner. Some 40 years ago when this acreage had come up for sale, Gary bid adieu to his Kodak job to farm this acreage. He was told these vines would not be of value and it was suggested he plant a tree farm instead. ““Well, thankfully Gary knew better!” “He’d helped me to learn his vines held approximately 50 varieties of grapes and that the area of Naples where he farms is known as a ‘table grape region’ “. “I knew I wanted grapes to snack on, yet not knowing which grape was which, I was treated to tasting several of the varieties he offered that day. I ended up choosing the Delaware champagne grape, the Sheridan, and the Vergennes.” “If you find yourself on County Road 12…you too will be very pleased this was not a tree farm instead!” “Along with fresh grapes, there are also grape cheesecakes, grape pies, grape pie filling, jam, and several varieties of apples offered for sale here.”“Do stop in – your palate will thank you!”
