Ford Library receives National Grant

The Ford Memorial Library in Ovid recently received a $7,500 grant from the Association for Library Services to Children (ALCS), a division of the American Library Association, to fund a Kid Film Lab project from December through March, 2016.The Ford Library was one of over 400 libraries to apply for the Curiosity Creates Grant to create a dynamic youth program inspiring creativity in children ages 6-14. The Ford Library will create a film studio complete with cameras, sound equipment, and editing software. With assistance from community members, volunteers from Ithaca College, and a professional documentary filmmaker, children will learn how to create their own short films.According to Library Director Shannon O’Connor, “We want to empower youth to explore filmmaking equipment and to discover the potential of film as a form of expression. We are hoping to connect our youth with local historians, business owners and adults with deep ties to the area to allow children the opportunity to learn about our region while presenting their own view of our community on film. We also hope to create a program replicable in other libraries within our system.” To learn more about the Kid Film Lab project, please contact Shannon at the Ford Library: [email protected] or 607-869-3031.
