309 pot plants seized in Seneca County

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit has concluded its annual investigation into the unlawful outside growing of marijuana. Marijuana was located in four of the ten towns of Seneca County with a total number of 309 plants seized for destruction. While marijuana has been decriminalized by New York State, outdoor marijuana growing poses a serious problem for the farming community as marijuana growers commonly grow in corn fields and cause significant damage to farming fields. The eradication effort was a joint operation between the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and New York State Environmental Conservation Police. One arrest was made during the operation which included the seizure of approximately 8 pounds of marijuana from a residence at 1272 West Townline Road in the Town of Junius. Shannon P. Green, age 41 of the same address, was found to be in possession of the marijuana and was subsequently charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana in the Second Degree, a Class D Felony, and Unlawful Growing of Cannabis, a Class A Misdemeanor. Green is currently supervised by the Seneca County Probation Department from a 2013 arrest where he was found to be in possession of over ten pounds of marijuana. Green was arraigned in the Junius Town Court and remanded to the Seneca County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail/$10,000 secured bond. Green is to reappear in the Junius Town Court on October 5th at 7 pm. The Seneca County Probation Department assisted in the arrest.
