It has become a leading catalyst for mobilizing the “caring power” of the local community by leveraging financial and volunteer support to provide a host of programs and services related to education, financial stability and healthy living. Although the organization is affiliated with the larger state and national networks, all fundraising efforts, resources and policy decisions are made at the local level by a leadership team comprised of community residents. The full-time staff of four oversees much of the work and relies on a large volunteer base to execute their annual campaign.Efforts are already underway to support this year’s fall campaign dubbed “Neighbor to Neighbor,” with a total fundraising goal of $370,000. Committee chairs Robert and Mary Ellen Kernan are spearheading the campaign that features several events including a fundraiser at Dewey’s Party House on September 22nd and a seminar on September 29th at the New York Chiropractic College on Social Media Pluses & Pitfalls. To learn more about the United Way of Seneca County or how you can volunteer, please visit http://www.uwseneca.org/ or call (315) 539-1135.
