Solarize Cayuga will hold a free Open House at Generations Bank on Main Street in Union Springs on Wednesday, September 16 from 5 – 6:30 pm. Refreshments will be served to attendees interested in learning more about applications for solar energy for homes and businesses. Generations Bank offers a prime example of a business that has “gone solar”, although many driving by this branch may have no idea of the significant amount of electrical power being generated atop the building. The bank’s rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system was installed in 2012 by Halco, one of the two solar contractors approved by Solarize Cayuga and providing special limited-time discount pricing for residences and businesses. The Generations Bank array is comprised of 36 Solar World 230-watt, generating 8.28 kW of electricity per year. According to Halco, under the current Solarize Cayuga discount program and factoring in incentives and tax credits, a comparable-sized system could be purchased for a business in Cayuga County for a little under $8,000.“At Generations, we chose to invest in solar for our offices because, even in our Northeast location, solar provides an alternative to non-renewable energy sources. In our locations the result of having solar installations is a little better than break even. The choice is about more than the bottom line, it is also about choosing an alternative energy source in solar power,” noted Menzo Case, Generations Bank President & CEO.Generations Bank has partnered with businesses and residents in the Northern Finger Lakes region since its founding in 1870, while maintaining a strong commitment to each and every community in which it operates. The bank is headquartered in Seneca Falls and serves customers from nine retail locations in Seneca Falls, Auburn, Waterloo, Geneva, Union Springs, Phelps and Farmington. Generations was named to CNY Business Journal’s Best Places to Work in 2015. The bank has solar installations on four of its locations: Union Springs, Seneca Falls, and both Waterloo retail offices. In addition to traditional business and consumer deposit services, Generations Bank focuses on residential mortgages, as well as manufactured home, automobile, home equity, commercial, nonresidential real estate and construction loans.
