Canal Co. Director Stratton to attend Van Cleef finale

Canal Corporation Director Brian U. Stratton will be in Seneca Falls tonight for the finale of the After The Falls: Van Cleef Lake Centennial commemoration.Stratton will head a delegation of invited guests and officials traveling on two canal boats up through the double locks at the foot of Van Cleef Lake to pause in the lake for a brief ceremony symbolically marking the meeting of the waters of Seneca Lake and Van Cleef Lake, which was created as part of the Barge Canal project in 1915.The evening will end with fireworks shot from a barge anchored in Van Cleef Lake. The finale was postponed from last night due to inclement weather.Before the display, guests on the canal boats will disembark on the north side of the canal to walk across the Ovid Street bridge to Generations Bank for brief remarks.. Generations Bank is sponsoring the evening’s activities, which are free and open to the public.East Bayard Street in front of the bank will be closed by police for the duration of the speeches and fireworks to permit pedestrians to safely gather there.
