Seneca Falls Farmers Market report for 8/19

Another hot August day, but there’s plenty of shade at People’s Park for the farmers market tomorrow in Seneca Falls from 9AM to 1:30PM. Lots of sweet corn, peaches, plums, blueberries and raspberries plus tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, onions, patti pan squash, chard, zucchini, yellow squash, snap and snow peas, green and yellow beans, radishes, broccoli, greens of many kinds, spinach, beets and whatever else is ripe this week!Lunch will include pulled pork and coleslaw and cold drinks are also available.Come down and use your food stamp (EBT/SNAP) benefits at the market! There is a special incentive called FreshConnect. For every food stamp recipient who purchases $5.00 of SNAP/EBT wooden tokens that person receives a $2 coupon FREE to spend on any food stamp eligible item at the market. If you spend $20 of your food stamp benefits you receive $8 FREE to spend. So spread the word to anyone you know who receives food stamp benefits.And if you are a senior aged 60 or over come down and get your Farmers Market Nutrition Coupons. The income qualification is VERY generous and you will receive $20 to spend at the market on fresh fruits and vegetables if you qualify. No paperwork needed.Also stop by the CCE tent where a CCE nutrition educator will be sampling some of the fresh veggies at the market and offering some recipes to help you use what you buy at the market. And our Master Preserver will be there to answer any canning, freezing or Preserving questions.Other great local items are also available like maple syrup, eggs, maple flavored popcorn, baked goods, grass fed beef, free range chicken, plants, jams and jellies and handmade items. Baked goods include homemade breads, sticky buns, whoopie pies, cupcakes (gluten free too!) and muffins. Come and meet the people who grow the food you buy!Besides the abundance of fresh, just picked veggies and fruits and other edibles, don’t forget about the handmade jewelry, vintage lavender filled linens, Watkins products, some really cute little girls skirts and dresses made from bandannas, plants in pretty pots, tomato plants and cut and dried flowers.
