Plan a visit to the Seneca Falls Farmers Market from 9 am – 1:30 pm Wednesday to see all the ways you can buy fresh, eat local and support the local economy. There is so much fresh, local produce available, all just picked and ready to eat! Lots of sweet corn, peaches, plums, apricots, blueberries and raspberries plus tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, onions, patti pan squash, chard, zucchini, yellow squash, snap and snow peas, green and yellow beans, radishes, broccoli, greens of many kinds, spinach, beets and whatever else is ripe this week! If you missed it last week, come and try something from our new vendor, Finger Lakes Pretzel Factory! They just opened a shop in downtown Seneca Falls and will be bringing their fresh, soft pretzels to the market each week along with their own “pretzel pop” gourmet flavored sodas. Stop down and see what they have to offer. Our two usual lunch vendors will be there featuring BBQ chicken with potatoes and dessert, or an Angus cheeseburger and pasta salad. Fresh ice tea and other cold drinks are also available. Or if you’re an early bird enjoy breakfast with some fresh coffee! Come down and use your food stamp (EBT/SNAP) benefits at the market! There is a special incentive called FreshConnect. For every food stamp recipient who purchases $5.00 of SNAP/EBT wooden tokens that person receives a $2 coupon FREE to spend on any food stamp eligible item at the market. If you spend $20 of your food stamp benefits you receive $8 FREE to spend. So spread the word to anyone you know who receives food stamp benefits. And if you are a senior aged 60 or over come down and get your Farmers Market Nutrition Coupons. The income qualification is VERY generous and you will receive $40 to spend at the market on fresh fruits and vegetables if you qualify. No paperwork needed. Also stop by the CCE tent where a CCE nutrition educator will be sampling some of the fresh veggies at the market and offering some recipes to help you use what you buy at the market. And our Master Preserver will be there to answer any canning, freezing or Preserving questions.Other great local items are also available like maple syrup, eggs, maple flavored popcorn, baked goods, grass fed beef, free range chicken, plants, jams and jellies and handmade items. Baked goods include homemade breads, sticky buns, whoopie pies, cupcakes (gluten free too!) and muffins. Come and meet the people who grow the food you buy! Besides the abundance of fresh, just picked veggies and fruits and other edibles, don’t forget about the handmade jewelry, vintage lavender filled linens, Watkins products, some really cute little girls skirts and dresses made from bandannas, plants in pretty pots, tomato plants and cut and dried flowers. All at very reasonable prices!Come and meet your neighbors and friends and talk to the people who grow the food you will eat. Like Seneca Falls Farmers Market on Facebook to get weekly updates. www.facebook.com/senecafallsfarmersmarketThe market would not be possible without the support of the Seneca Falls Development Corporation and the Town of Seneca Falls. Thank you to them for helping support local products and businesses!See you in the Park!
