Below is a statement from Thomas C. Wilmot, Sr., Director, Lago Resort & Casino in response to last week’s ruling against the Tyre casino in NYS Appellate Court…“While we are disappointed with last week’s decision on technical grounds by the Appellate Division, we respect the judicial process and will not take any action that doesn’t comport with the Court’s decision.“As Tyre’s leaders determine their next steps to correct the technical deficiencies the Court says exist, we will suspend continued construction on Lago at this time, and until such time as the site plan is approved once again by the Tyre Town Board. During the coming days our crew will ensure that the site is appropriately preserved to comply with state and local requirements and allow for immediate continued construction when that becomes appropriate.“We stand ready to assist the Tyre and Seneca County leaders as they work through this process and we have every confidence that nothing involved in this judicially-mandated detour will negatively impact the ability of the New York State Gaming Commission to award a casino license to Lago within its announced timetable this fall.“I would be disingenuous if I did not say how frustrated I am in this temporary delay. However, I am most disappointed on behalf of the people of Tyre, Seneca County and the Finger Lakes region who badly need the jobs and economic development Lago’s construction and operations will provide.“On behalf of everyone connected with Lago Resort & Casino, I want to express our continued commitment to creating construction jobs for our friends in the union trades and permanent jobs for people across the region, increasing tourism throughout the Finger Lakes, and helping strengthen the local economy, which will aid new and existing businesses as even more local jobs are created.“In my 50 years of developing projects across Upstate New York, I have rarely been involved in a significant project that does not have to overcome hurdles along the way. However, I am confident that we will clear this hurdle and soon be back on track for building the best destination resort in all of New York.”
