Sheriff David Gould reports: Effective today’s date we are re-opening the Canal, Seneca River and Cross lake to boat traffic with a no wake stipulation until water levels return to seasonal average. This is in conjunction with the NYS Canal System and Onondaga County.Extreme caution should still be taken while traversing these waterways as there is still a large amount of dangerous debris such as trees and branches in the waterways, often floating unseen below the surface. Shorelines may still be submerged making docks and other structures difficult to observe. Wakes create significant erosion and damage to the expanded water’s edge.For more information on the Canal System, mariners may contact them at 1-800-4CANAL4 or visit www.canals.ny.gov .
