Seneca Falls Farmers Market report for 7/1

We wanted to extend a big thank you to everyone who is making the market such a success so early in the season! The vendors and local supporters of the market are grateful for everyone’s support. It is wonderful to see so many people eat fresh and buy local! So once again we invite you to come to People’s Park (rain or shine but let’s hope for shine J) and visit the Seneca Falls Farmers Market, tomorrow (Wednesday) from 9AM – 1:30PM to support local businesses and local agriculture! There is different produce showing up every week now! You can expect to find cherries, raspberries, zucchini, yellow squash, snap and snow peas, radishes, broccoli, lettuce, spinach, beets and whatever else is ripe this week! Also stop by the CCE tent where a CCE nutrition educator will show you ways to grill some fresh market veggies on a kabob! Then buy those veggies right at the market for dinner. Also get great advice for freezing, canning and preserving the produce you buy. Other great local items are also available like honey, maple syrup, eggs, maple flavored popcorn, baked goods, grass fed beef, free range chicken, plants, jams and jellies and handmade items. Baked goods include homemade breads, sticky buns, whoopie pies, cupcakes (gluten free too!) and muffins. Come and meet the people who grow the food you buy! There are two vendors serving lunch, featuring bbq chicken with potatoes and dessert, or BLT or grilled cheese and homemade tomato soup. Fresh ice tea and other cold drinks are also available. Or if you’re an early bird enjoy a breakfast sandwich and coffee! Come and see what great items are available this week.Besides the abundance of fresh, just picked veggies and fruits and other edibles, don’t forget about the handmade jewelry, vintage lavender filled linens, Watkins products, some really cute little girls skirts and dresses made from bandannas, plants in pretty pots, tomato plants and cut and dried flowers. All at very reasonable prices!Come and use your EBT card and buy anything the vendors are selling that is food stamp eligible. Stretch your food dollars with local foods! And if you are age 60 or older and qualify for Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons, a representative will be at the market NEXT week, Wednesday, July 8th,distributing $40 worth of coupons to anyone 60+ who qualifies. The guidelines are quite generous so come down and see if you qualify and walk off with $40 to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables at the market. Come and meet your neighbors and friends and talk to the people who grow the food you will eat. The market would not be possible without the support of the Seneca Falls Development Corporation and the Town of Seneca Falls. Thank you to them for helping support local products and businesses!See you in the Park!
