Our nation’s day of independence is just a few days away. The 4th of July, a day of pride for Americans, is traditionally commemorated with fireworks. But for veterans, the very people who fought for America’s freedom, the explosion of fireworks can bring about awful stress.Counselors warn that loud noises can cause flashbacks and anxiety attacks for Veterans who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The sounds, reminiscent of war, can traumatize a veteran. Counselors said that most people don’t even realize someone as nearby as a neighbor could be affected. Please take the time to consider your neighbors who are Veterans this 4th of July Weekend. Veterans can also be proactive by trying to avoid fireworks this holiday, perhaps going somewhere more remote where they won’t be distressed.
