Arts Center of Yates presents Master Works

Critique is an essential part of the artistic process, giving both validation and feedback which enables an artist to continue to evolve. One opportunity for working artists to receive critiques is through participation in a “juried show.” In order to participate in a juried show, artists must submit pieces of work for acceptance to the show. Professional artists are recruited to judge (or “jury”) the works – accepting those they feel are “best.” Only those pieces are shown and the judges issue merit awards for various outstanding pieces in the show. With this in mind, the Arts Center of Yates County is proud to present its first juried show of two dimensional work at the Flick Gallery, located at 127 Main Street in Penn Yan, NY. The show, which includes more than 60 paintings and photographs created by 43 regional artists, opens Friday June 26 with an exhibit opening and awards ceremony from 5 – 7 pm. All of the original work on display will be for sale. Judges for the show are painter George Van Hook of Cambridge, NY and Rochester photographer Gary Thompson. Show sponsors include Dick Blick Art Supply, Golden Artists Colors, Longs Cards and Books, Museum Photographics, Park Avenue Picture Framing, and Pixel Preserve. Paul and Nancy Middlebrook have funded an Excellence in Painting Award and Stephen and Elise Rosenfeld have funded an Excellence in Photography Award. The June 26th opening will include a wine tasting by Rooster Hill Vineyards and hors d’oeuvres. It is free and open to the public. Stop by, meet the artists and see if you agree with the judges’ decisions! The show runs until July 27th.
