The Seneca County Chamber of Commerce and Hampton Inn Seneca Falls are pleased to announce L.M. Sessler Excavating & Wrecking Inc. of Waterloo as the June Business of the Month. The business celebrates its 57th anniversary this November. “On behalf of the Chamber community, we congratulate the entire Sessler team on this well-deserved honor,” said Chamber Board Chair Mark Benjamin. “Seneca County is fortunate to have such a dynamic, industry leader within its business community and at the forefront of its economic development efforts.”Founded by Vern and Barb Sessler in 1958, the company’s core operations have evolved from its early days when it was known more for digging swimming pools, cellars, waterlines, sewers, leach fields and installing septic tanks. Today, Sessler Wrecking is focused primarily on bridge and large-industrial demolition projects. It has become the largest volume bridge demolition contractor in New York State. In 2009, the company received one of the largest projects in its history with the emergency demolition and removal of the Lake Champlain Bridge. One area of the business that has remained constant, however, is the fact that Sessler Wrecking remains a family business — spanning three generations of the Sessler family. In 2012, the company became certified as a NYS woman-owned business under the direction of the Sessler’s daughter Jane (Shaffer). In addition to Jane and Chris Shaffer, Vern Jr., Craig, Craig’s sons Daniel, Brian Jeff and Kevin are all involved in the operations of Sessler Wrecking.

That level of service and dedication has helped Sessler Wrecking achieve numerous corporate awards and accolades. Sessler holds the record for best safety in the industry thanks in part to the OSHA training its employees receive and their longevity and experience. Sessler Wrecking is also an innovative leader in their industry. Craig and Vern Jr. are credited with inventing (and patenting) an essential and widely used product for the demolition industry that allows traffic to flow safely underneath a bridge during the demolition process. Inaddition, the company is also credited for promoting sustainable business practices — recycling 90 percent of the debris from projects for base materials in new construction.Among the numerous additional awards presented to Sessler Wrecking are: being listed among the “Top 20 demolition companies in the US” by the Engineering News Record (1989, 1991, 2001), recognized as a “Top 3 specialty contractor in the Tri-State area”, and being named one of the “Nation’s Top 600 Demolition Contractors.”The Sessler family is involved in many local community and charitable organizations including; Waterloo Rotary, United Way of Seneca County, American Red Cross, Seneca County Chamber of Commerce, Celebrate Commemorate Memorial Day, the Boy Scouts, local athletics and the Women’s Hall of Fame.To learn more about L.M.
