The only street with medians in Geneva will be getting a makeover this summer with the help of interested volunteers in the Historic North neighborhood. The Hoe-n-Hope Gardening Club cared for the flowers and plants on North Main median for the past thirteen years, and the torch was recently passed to the neighborhood association. With the support of the Geneva Neighborhood Resource Center, a new plan of action for the care and upkeep of the gardens has been designed. On June 28 at 9 am neighbors and other enthusiasts will meet at Median #1 (with the Gateway sign in front of the Library) to begin the process of replanting many of the medians. If you are a gardening enthusiast, or are looking for a way to help volunteer in the City of Geneva, you are invited to participate in the event. Each median will have three layers of plants and will be planted according to sun/shade location and proximity. Different varieties, including leafed hostas, roses, daylilies including ‘stella d’oro’, coneflowers, Purple Salvia, and Black-Eyed Susans will be used. Plants will be purchased with a grant and with some private donations. If any residents in the neighborhood would like to donate any of the plants listed above from their gardens, please email Leslie Kroeger thepoint86@hotmail.com as soon as possible and then drop them off at the Re-Planting Party.
